A quick hello from Swindon

Hi,

I'm Mark - based in North Swindon. I've been woodworking for about 4 years now and turning for just over a year.
In addition to woodworking and woodturning, I also brew my own beer (which reminds me, I must try and get a brew on this weekend!).

Welcome Mark, I was a very keen brewer, from raw materials. But that was a few years ago now, just last week I cleared out all my equipment, it made me a little sad how little interest there was in it, in the end it was free to a good home. Shame you didn’t join a few weeks ago lol.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Apologies for the slowness of my reply. It's been a busy few days work-wise.
I will gladly post pictures. In fact here are a couple of a project I completed a year or so ago.
I decided to have a go at a Krenov-style wall cabinet. Rather than use dowel joinery, I decided to use dovetails.
The majority of the timber is reclaimed oak - a chap down the road offered me some table legs from a boardroom table. It would have been rude not to accept :-)

Apologies if the wonkyness insults your sensibilities - they are quick and dirty shots.

With respect to the brewing - I use an all-in-one system called a Grainfather which is much better than having to use a 'traditional' three-vessel setup. I also have two of the Grainfather stainless steel fermenters and a glycol chiller so I can control fermentation temperatures. Temperature control is, in my humble opinion, THE most important part of the process. The results speak for themselves - the quality of the beer produced is easily as good as commercial brews.
The only downside is the fermenters, grainfather and kegging fridge take up a lot of space in my workshop.

Thank you Bob. To be fair, once I had removed any screws and milled the old table legs square, the timber was really nice. It was obviously high quality stuff.

There are a number of Krenov fans here (I'm not one of them!) who will love your cabinet. I appreciate the workmanship, but not the style. Look out for a reply from Woodbloke who has a house full of Krenov-esque furniture, but who may not look in the Introductions sub-forum. It might be worthwhile posting a new thread in the General Woodworking forum, or Projects, where you'll get more viewings.........and now you've passed the magic 3 posts, there is no more moderation barrier to overcome.

Nice job on that cabinet; they look simple but you soon find out how tricky they are when you build one (or a few ) I might have been inclined though, to make the exterior more curved; it appears (may be the pic/light) that there are still flat sections that haven't been shaped; the inside looks fine - Rob

Thank you. I made myself a small coopering plane using a Hock plane kit. It worked pretty well.

Thanks Rob. There was a bit of a trade~off with shaping and making the door too thin. Personally, I quite like the effect.
