Another from SA

Postby martc » 02 May 2015, 13:47

Hi all, Yes I'm another who found this site through Mike G's posts on the 4x4 forum in South Africa.
I'm a Brit who has been living in South Africa for 9 years now.
I learned the Chippy Trade at Bristol college about 13 years ago.
Since I moved here I have made a living as a carpenter, I design, build and fit kitchens and built in cupboards
as well as all the standard site carpentry such as doors, skirting, windows etc,
I have spent the last two days just reading posts on this site and the more I read the more I want to know.

So what board is the best place to post these pics,
Please bear in mind I just lost about 2 years worth of photos due to not backing up my laptop for a while and then having a problem with it, but I will do what I can

Mike, I do have to say that with the standard of the average so called "carpenters" in this country your
thread on the 4x4 forum has opened the eyes of quite a few people over here,
The amount of times I have given a quote on ordinary jobs only to be told that they can get it done for a quarter of the price , then they call back to ask me to fix what the other guy has done

Hi Martc,

We have a sticky about posting photos in "tips and tutorials"
http://thewoodhaven2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=64

Photobucket have been fiddling with their user interface so the the screen shots in the tutorial are a bit out of date but the princples are the same.
Experience has shown that using "dropbox" for photos brings the forum to a crawling pace but "photobucket" seems to work well. Other photo hosts may be just as good but we advise you to avoid dropbox like the plague.

hth

I offered my services to Mad Manny but he did't seem interested.:)

What I am doing isn't every day stuff on building sites in the UK, but it is fairly standard on historic building projects, which is probably half my work as an architect. Lots of guys have the skills.
