Hello from the Franche Comte (for the next week or so)

Postby MartinF » 26 Aug 2015, 17:56

Greetings one and all.

Having lurked on UKW, and WWUK for a few years, I finally signed up to UKW about 18 months ago. Since WH2 started I have been lurking on here as well but, knowing that quite a number of UKW members post on here as well, thought I should join the gang.

Most of my posts on UKW have been seeking advice and their members have been very kind with helping me. I’ve made a few things over the years but nothing of any quality like some of the projects I’ve seen on the various forums. I must get around to taking a few pictures of what I have done and posting them at some stage.

I note that several members of WH2 are resident in France and I look forward to, perhaps, swapping notes with them from time to time. My daughter and her family live in France and, since I retired some ten years ago, my wife and I spend virtually all the school holidays with them in the Franche Comte (where’s that you ask). I spend a lot of time here trying to renovate the side of the house that my wife and I share with the family. A lot of the renovation is to do with decorating but there is some joinery to do from time to time.

Welcome Martin.
After three posts the moderation thing will stop and you will be able to post unhindered and include links to your photos. If you don't know how to post photos, there is a guide wot I rote in the tips and tutorials section.

I think I'm correct in saying most if not all our members residing in France are in fact English
and have chosen to escape the the land of wine and cheese for one reason or another.

Bob, who co-incidentally is off to France on Monday for a brief holiday.

Hi Martin and welcome. I was down that way for the skiing in the winter, Les Rousses - cross country skiing. Also managed to visit Switzerland 3 times in one day at the border crossing in La Cure. The station is one side of the border and the car park the other!
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers
Andy

Happy holiday Bob. Hope you are going somewhere warm like the Franche Comte, 34C in the shade today!

Andy - we're off to Normandy next week to see my sister-in-law on our way back to the UK; she and her husband are up near Falaise. We just hope that the weather up there improves by the time we get there.
At the moment, here in the Franche Comte as mentioned above, it's been 34C in the shade today with more of the same forecast for tomorrow. We did visit Les Rousses many years ago but it's at the other end of the region from us; we're in the Haute Saone about 40 miles north west of Besancon.

Thanks Martin,
We shall be somewhere midway between Agen and Cahors. Anything over 30 is close to hell as far as I'm concerned which is why we normally visit either in May or September but I understand that this summer is the 2nd hottest since 1951. I will be keeping well out of the sun and taking on the pate and cheese mountains and doing my best to drain a wine lake too.

Incidentally we plan to be passing through Falaise on Monday afternoon.

Yes, a bit warm ! I spent saturday at the World Aerobatic Championship in Chateauroux.
38° in the shade, but no problem, 'cos there wasnt any shade on a big airfield !!
We cooked.

Got some nice photos though...
