Newbie

Postby techauthorbob » 07 Aug 2017, 15:10

Hi all,
My name is Bob (do I hear groans?).
I retired from engineering not too long ago and after working at the obligatory Jobs List got involved with making a replacement rustic bed for home and then two more for youngest son in London.

At the time this was mainly alien to me as my background is mainly metal based but my skills are slowly developing because of having to make accessories like tables and table lamps etc.

We are fortunate here to be near British Hardwoods, so getting offcuts is easy and mistakes relatively cheap
Looking forwards to some lively chitchat and hopefully some help! Time will tell...

Welcome :)

My dad was Bob so I'm Robert not Bob and always will be.

Like the Bob that posted above me here I was in electrical and mechanical engineering and even have HNC electronics though I never used it. And also like Bob I've taken up woodworking as a retirement hobby.

I'm sure you'll like it here.

Update!

Y'all wanted pictures...

I have updated my Wordpress blog to show some of my older projects, including non woodworking ones.

If you want a look:

I had to provide evidence to prove to my other half that I was actually doing something apart from drinking coffee!

Love it, Bob! You were a bit ambitious in the spacing of the bike rack hooks, and the oil heater looks like it is about to launch itself in low earth orbit (you wouldn't get me within a mile of that!!)....but that go cart is fabulous.

Unlike you jazzd,I was only a CIVIL engineer after copious amounts of coffee!

Mike, the bike spacing was what my son required, I just think he has too many bikes there ( he still has two in my garage), they do fit OK though on the rack surprisingly!

The stove was only ever an experiment and believe me it got REALLY hot, and that was on a drip only every 5 seconds or so once it got running, it was also scarily noisy until it got hot and I could turn the fan off.

Very interesting project though, I might make a really small one someday, I think that would keep a good sized workshop fairly warm. I would probably use the smallest size of "proper" gas canister with no door, just a drawer near the base for the lighting stuff.
