Hello from Leicestershire

Postby cadman_4 » 14 Oct 2017, 14:31

Hello all

I’ve been on the forum for a little while now and have had a little help from “Mike” on a temporary utility room while the kitchen got remodelled. Almost finished that and now thinking about workshops again

Cheers

John

Thanks Malc. I’ve been following yours and everyone else’s workshop that I can find

I am looking to build a shop that is primarily for motorcycle restoration, read “tinkering” and also a little woodworking

As mentioned Mike G gave me a little help on construction of a temporary lean to utility room that we built just before we started off our kitchen refurb so I got the idea of the stud wall construction. So I think I shall be starting up my own thread soon for a bit more help on the “Big Build”

Good Luck.

They're a great and supportive bunch on here with loads of experience and ideas.

P.S.

I've got my old 1958 BMW R50S in the bits in my garage. I've had it since 1970. I might have to think about restoring it.

Welcome John, a workshop build followed by a bike rebuild would be fun to watch.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

John, welcome.

Restoring bikes sounds interresting.

Thanks all.

I’ve had bikes on and off for 35 years. My dad taught me how to work on a Yamaha FS1-E at 12 and I’ve loved them ever since. The reason for the workshop build is because the garage is filled with too many push bikes and stuff and I have two triumphs and a TZR125 to restore. They’ve been waiting for a number of years to receive some attention, so hopefully next year will see the building completed and then bikes to follow. On that note we went to Grand Designs Live at the weekend for some inspiration and I got talking to a few SIPS companies, how come nobody’s built one of those on here? Also is it possible to manufacture your own panels?

Cheers for now

John

You pretty much answered you own question there, John. SIPs are just really a pre-made bit of timber framing, essentially, and people here make their own timber frames. Besides, SIPs generally need a crane to handle into position, and only offer money saving if labour is a big part of your expense. Frankly, I can't think that they offer much to the DIYer building a workshop.

Thanks Mike. I think I’ll start a post in workshop builds next week to capture all my musings in one place
