Hello

Hello All

Long time lurker, on and off, and very much enjoy the projects and workshop sections.

I'm more of a reader than a doer, plenty of tools, but not much of an idea. Too afraid of making mistakes and not doing something to the best it can be to ever really start much of anything. I have a large workshop space but it's not heated or critter proof and not conducive to spending much time in.

My father enjoyed woodworking and had a fair selection of tools, which I have inherited, and along with those I've bought with the best intentions I have no real excuses. I do have a plan to construct a nicer workspace, nearer the house and actually get on and make things, instead of the bit of carpentry and tinkering that I currently do.

Before that though the Chief Designer (I've pinched that from someone, but I don't recall who) wants a garden pavilion, so I confess I have an ulterior motive to finally signing up to the forum, since I would like to get some help.

I look forward to posting about something I can be proud of making some day in the future!

first efforts are never "something to be proud of" :D
Get on and make stuff. The more you make the less errors you make, and eventually you start to be proud. 8-)

Welcome to the darkside. Be warned, a pavillion erected by a longterm lurker on the eve of a full moon shall for ever be cursed to lean slightly to the left.

Or some such nonsense.

How do from somewhere near Manchester.

Hello Simon, I still feel a bit odd saying welcome as I've not been long here myself but welcome.
Don't feel an imposter, that feeling goes away the more you turn your hand, but the important thing is to do something. I'm currently putting all the dovetailers to shame by smashing together a sound damping mdf vacuum box. It's all a learning curve. No one will judge you. Ok they might.. but they are an understanding lot and will do it quietly and in private.

Hi and welcome :)

Get making things and post some pictures. That's what I did when i started woodworking and the advice helped me improve. Mind you pretty much all of my early work has ended up as firewood by now - but I'm reasonably pleased with what has survived!

Welcome Simon. I wonder if your first step might be to put a bit of effort into your workshop, to keep the cold and the vermin out. Happy to help with a bit of advice.....a few photos would help.

That's kind, thank you and you're right, I know this, and I probably just need to make some new doors. The cold can be overcome with a heater, lighting can be improved etc.

Perhaps my first project thread will then be to replace the workshop doors.
