Retrofit kitchen cupboard door dampers

Postby 9fingers » 15 Sep 2020, 13:18

Looking for some experience with the above. The cupboard hinges are old and predate soft close so I'm looking for something to reduce the "slam" noise caused by the rest of the family.

Some seem to fit on the hinge side, others fit on the other side of the frame.
Obviously a lot more leverage on the hinge side types but possibly more discreet

Any advice on which type, brand etc please.

I've got soft close in the shed (had some spare) the dampers clip onto the hinge units and I'm forever knocking them off.

Don't know if that's helpful or not!

Thanks Gents

I don't think my hinges have the attachment hole for the clip on ones but useful to know they have a problem anyway.

I'll look out for some that Woodster mentioned.

Bob,
What hinges are already on? if you are using standard 35mm then it should be a straight swap for something. Hettich, Blum have built in damping pistons.

Yes they are 35mm but far too many to scrap and just fit new integrated ones. They also date from mid 80s so the carcass end might be different by now.
A quick mental count up suggests 20 doors

I found a source of retrofit pistons ones on ebay £6.69 for 20 delivered from PRC

check the mounting plate holes, they should be on the standard drilling pattern and distance from edge of the cabinet.
