Thread cutting in lignum vitae

Postby Andyp » 12 May 2016, 10:36

Do you think this type of thread cutting kit will be man enough to cut threads in lignum vitae?

Will probably want to cut the female thread in LV and the male in beech, or maybe vice versa.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Maybe if you drill a tapping hole first?

Don't see why not Andy, I have one & found as long as you keep the cutter sharp it has worked well, though I've not used it on Lignum Vitae I would have thought the woods natural oiliness should aid thread cutting.

Indeed Doug, I have read elsewhere that it is advisable to oil the wood well before use so LV may well have and advantage as you say. I will order one and find out.
