Do you think I've got woodworm

Postby Doug » 22 Jul 2016, 19:14

I'm working at the present on a very old stone built cottage, amoungst the things the lady who has just bought it asked was "do you think there is any woodworm" I think this answered her question

Is it a floor board isn't? A wonder that nobody has fallen through it. A bit beyond fixing with hardener and filler :D
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Andy's right it is part of the front room floor, fortunately it was covered as I pushed my finger straight through this floorboard, anyone standing on it would have gone straight through :?

Some of my daughters bathroom floor was like that - and had the bath standing on it. Years of damp from the shower tiles leaking. I replaced the entire floor and added more ventilation to the sub floor area.

Do tell your client not to worry, Doug. Dry timber, and timber over (from memory) 19 celcius, is safe from woodworm. People always think they're going to lose their dining table and bookshelves if they find a bit of woodworm, but if you correct the cause of the initial problem (almost certainly dampness), then there is no need whatever for your client to be panicking, or spraying (which amounts to the same thing).

I don't think the lady worries about much Mike & the deckchair she watches TV from is metal framed  fortunately the worse of the woodworm is where an old hearth used to be, once the remnants of that are removed it will simply be a case of replacing a joist & renewing the flooring
