Non square frame

Postby Woodpile » 06 Mar 2017, 20:17

I've made a couple of doors from 100mm redwood frame with 2 x 6mm MDF panels. I've made them slightly oversize so I can plane to fit, however the opening is not square, is it ok to plane a small amount off all sides to make them fit?, I'm concerned that planing on one stile only will stand out like a sore thumb. The doors are 1670mm high and I will be planing approx 10mm off.
Thanks

My experience over the years is that one tends to see the gaps more than one sees the widths of the timber. Get the gap right between the door and the frame and pretty much all else is overlooked.

Frankly.........have you got any choice? You've got to change the door to fit the opening, or you've got to change the opening. It's usually as simple as that.
