Some interesting stuff starting (at long last) to appear on the Ax forum; here's something that I started the other day - Rob

Morning Rod

In the past I've used sheet lead cut and dressed loosely round the jaws.

Cheers

Take off the hard steel jaws and replace them with aluminium ones.

I use pieces of UHMWP (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene), it's a nylon like plastic but does not absorb water like nylon.

Fairly tough but malleable, I rivet it to bits of steel to clamp over the jaws of the vice.

Will post a pic when I find them, not needed them for some time 'cos woodwork rules now.

I used to work in the bakery machinery industry, lots of the stuff used in food production, you could probably scrounge enough bits from that sort of place. Cutting boards are the same tiff too!

Rob the jaws on my Record vice screw on. Why not just replace them with a suitable piece of wood?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

The tacky Blu appears to have done the job. Time will tell if they do come adrift but I'm reasonably confident that the adhesion produced by the stuff (and you know what it's like when you try and make it part company with something) will hold the ali jaws in place - Rob
