Thread failure in sash clamp

Postby Mike G » 19 Aug 2018, 08:24

Can anyone help? One of my sash clamps failed yesterday, with the thread giving up. It is the old fashioned T-bar type clamp, with cast fittings, and I found the thread from the head casting wrapped around the screw. Is it now just bin material?

Not repairable without a lot of work mike.
The bar and foot can be kept as an extender and the head can be robbed for spares apart from the main casting. Before you do anything else grease up your other clamps to reduce the chances of this happening again.

Could you bodge something by using a nut and some threaded bar somehow?

The correct type of threaded bar and nuts (acme, square section etc) are available from The Halifax Rack and Screw Company near Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Very helpfull lot there!
