Boxwood

Postby Rod » 30 Oct 2018, 18:18

About 15 yrs ago, I was given a 1m by 100mm diameter length of boxwood which was already split.
Yesterday I started cutting it up into manageable pieces and wonder how old it was to reach such size?
I’ve got a few box shrubs that I planted 40 odd years ago and the stems are still twigs by comparison.

I had a bit that sort of size and the grain was so tight I could not see the rings to count!

In the centre of Sudbury there is St Peters church, I found a carving of the last supper in the side aisle and there is a notice which says it's carved from Box wood, I wondered how many bits had to be joined to get the width of the piece.
Regards,
Dave
My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

Yep. When we left the UK in 2007 I took cuttings from a bush we had in the garden. Those cuttings have only just managed to get to potager border height - about 12"-14". I have subsequently taken many more cuttings over the years which typically seem to take at least 2 years before they show any growth whatsoever.
I do not think therefore I do not am.
