Favourite on line titbits?

Postby Froggy » 03 Sep 2014, 19:03

When I first started woodworking I found the internet a great source of free help, with my first favourite been http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/ I learnt a lot and enjoyed Marc's presentation. I later found Norm and watched as many of the NYW videos as possible. Since then I've enjoyed the likes of Rob Cosman, Paul Sellars and David Charlesworth amongst others. My recent favourite being https://www.youtube.com/user/doucetteandwolfe
I've also enjoyed one off woodworking related titbits such as 'alone in the wilderness' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYJKd0rkKss
But I've seen them all now and some of them several times and at the moment I'm in bed ill (all say 'awwwww' ) and want something new to excite me. So come on guys and gals what have got? What are your favourite snippets that cost nowt on line? And don't forget the links :D

Cheers Froggy.

Sorry to hear that you sre poorly. Here is a favourite of mine.

I especially like his quote about paint is for decoration and not protection. This has always struck a chord with me.
Hope you enjoy it and get better soon.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Cheers Andy, actually I've already seen that and it is good. The slow meandering pace almost makes me look forward to old age :D

I found some of the Tommy MacDonald stuff entertaining. The Bombe Secretary was particularly impressive.

Nothing to do with woodworking, but interesting just the same.

Hi Tim,

Sorry to hear you are under the weather - Janice sends her best wishes too!

Try looking for Thomas Anton Geurts on Youtube- one you might not have seen

Also Matthias Wandel - quite a popular one so you might have seen some of his stuff but there is a lot of it to look at.

Best Wishes

Bob

I don't follow any woodworking sources apart from here so can't give you any links specific to woodwork.

http://www.thisiscolossal.com/ is a general art site that sometimes has interesting woodwork items featured. Mostly is is art found around the www some is interesting some isn't. Worth a quick scan through what they have found once a week say or if you've not seen it before go back through some of the older stuff. Good for ideas too.

for example http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/08/c ... la-shamia/

one picture lifted from that page -

http://www.notcot.org/ is a similar site but has tiled icons for the reviews instead of scrolling through pages like collossal. Both good for killing some time though.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi David - I have a friend in the haute vienne who has a water mill that he is restoring, I'm sure he'll be interested and will have a look myself, thanks.

Bob - I'm fine now, but thanks for your concern and please say hello to Janice for me. I love Matthias Wandel he's a bit eccentric and makes everything look so simple - bit of a mad genius. Never heard of the other chap so I'll look into that, thanks. Planning any trips to France in the near future? It would be nice to see you again.

Robert - I'm always looking for new ideas and inspiration (one of the advantages of being a hobbyist is we can make whatever we feel like :eusa-dance: ). So I'll check out those sites. Thank you.

Mark when I put a search on 'David Marks, Woodworks' it came up with a band and song :eusa-doh: I'll try again tonight, thanks.

Cheers everyone, have a good weekend. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

There's one name missing from this thread, probably the greatest of them all, the one man who knows it all. Tim Allen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fD_HZA7m8A :D

I'm recovering from a lumbar epidural to help heal a prolapsed disc, so i've been perusing youtube a lot lately too.

Cheers, and get well soon mate. :obscene-drinkingcheers:
