I love my Glu-Bot

Postby 9fingers » 10 Mar 2019, 22:47

Over the years I've used all sorts of glue bottles from fairy liquid bottles, titebond bottles refilled etc etc

Then I got a Glu Bot. Its a US product and most suppliers in UK charge the earth for them apart from woodworkers workshop here https://woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/produ ... ttle-16-oz

The key to its success is the narrow section fed from the main reservoir. Even when the level is low, you don't need to tip the bottle just squeeze the body and glue up forced up to the nozzle.
All the other bottles I used need to be tipped upside down especially when the amount of glue gets low and you have to wait for the glue to run down the bottle before you get any results from squeezing it.
It has a flexible nozzle and an achored silicone rubber cap to stop the glue in the nozzle from drying out. It even has a little protrusion to park the cap on to stop it getting in the way.

Totally bl00dy brilliant device and just right to put on your Christmas/Birthday list which is how I got mine.

11 out of 10!

Bob

I bought a couple off Tom years ago a really handy addition to the workshop, the forked nozzle is particularly useful for applying glue to the centre of a board edge.

Aw Bob

I've love mine too, ... I accidently left it too close to my iron and melted a hole in it (d'oh!), fixed with some hot melt glue, then last week I broke the lead for the silicone cap bad Jimmy.

The nozzle's getting a bit worn/split too... Be great if you could buy these separately - maybe you can? It's two years old, so maybe time for a new one.

Though I absolutely agree, it's great

Looks useful but when the container is more expensive than the contents I do wonder ... :D

Yes but you can refill it

Jimmy has put 2 years worth of commercial gluing through his.

Just the advantage on not having to tip the bottle and wait for glue to reach the nozzle is such a timesaver.

Thanks Bob, now on the Amazon Wish List. I wonder if it's worth getting the tip kit at the same time? - Rob

Well after 2 years commercial use Jimmy has worn out 1 tip so you are not likely to be using it that heavily so maybe not worth it.
However, for delivery of larger amounts of glue you can snip the nozzle to give a larger openings so you might want a couple of nozzles.
You get one slot shaped nozzle and a round one with each Glu Bot. I've only used the slot shaped one so far.
You can use that as both an applicator/spreader as well as for delivering extra glue. With a bit of cunning you can also suck up any excess glue.
Since getting the Glu Bot at Christmas, I've not used a brush at all, just the odd lolly stick sized offcut and mainly the nozzle.

I killed the 'Yorker' fine tip quite quickly, it got clogged and I clumsily split it whilst picking out some residue with a bradawl. Though I too prefer the 'Blade' tip.

You can pick up packs of 5 of either the 'Blade' or ' Yorker' tips off ebay for £3.60... I also see the Bot itself is cheaper here than on Amazon, at £14

It's a worthy purchase, very easy to control the flow, you can see what's going on, no shaking business and no fussing with those useless twisty caps on standard bottles. You can roll the silicon cap in your fingers and any dried glue pops out. 8-)

I nearly flashed the cash for one of these 'bots but then saw that P&P was almost as expensive !

I do wonder how much these actually cost to make.

Many years ago when my favourite Levi’s cost £17.00 a pair there was an article in the newspaper showing a breakdown of the actual cost of a pair of Levi’s jeans. The upshot was that with cost to make, manufacturers profit, wholesalers profit, retailers profit and transport cost what started out at 17p to make ended up at £17.00 in the shops!

So to answer the first question I’d be really surprised if these Glu Bots cost more than 25p to make. Surely the Chinese could flog them to us direct for about £1.50 and still make a tidy profit.

I could make use of them Doug or split them with others as you see fit.

TIA

That's very kind Doug. Out of interest, how come you're not keeping them for your own Bot?

I must have bought mine 8 odd years ago they have long since ceased functioning though as I said earlier they are a very handy workshop addition, I’ve never replaced them as my use of pva is pretty limited these days & the glues I do use wouldn’t be suitable for a glu-bot

Hats off to Doug!

The extra nozzles arrived this morning and a spare guide designed to help deposit glue along the centre of a board edge.

Thanks mate
