Yandles...caveat emptor!!

Postby Woodbloke » 23 Apr 2019, 16:56

On the 18th last, Yandles had a 20% off sale so I trotted down the A303 with a bulging credit card to get some choice (or so I thought) timber, some of which were a few bits of what looked like decent enough elm. They'd planed up the best side, naturally enough, but I failed miserably to examine the underside in the shed.
When I got home I saw that there were 'several' :eusa-whistle: worm holes in the board, which were liberally doused with Rentokill gloop. When I started to skim them this morning on the dirty side, all the boards were riddled with worm and became bandsaw fodder...

...ending up in the wheely bin.

Moral of the story; examine your boards with the utmost care and always take a flashlight, especially to Yandles! I didn't and paid the price  - Rob

It's getting steadily more difficult to find quality timber. I picked up some pre-ordered steamed beech from Devon Hardwoods a couple of weeks back for door frames on a kitchen island, and I had to reject over half of it because of twists, bends and on one piece wormy bark down one entire side. That's why I always try to collect in person rather than have delivered - much easier to reject and get replacements if still at the warehouse.

I never order any timber Rog but much prefer to examine each board meticulously and with the utmost care and consideration...only this time I didn't :( :( :( Having dumped it in the wheelie bin, I'm sure the worms will have a wonderful time in a landfill site :D - Rob
