Wot's this bit called?

Postby 9fingers » 19 May 2020, 09:24

As per title really.

I'm looking for ideas on shapes for the cutout in the plinth(?) shown below.
What is the generic name for the shaped cutout (rather than this specific shape) so I can google for ideas please.

i believe the old fashioned name used by the yanks is baseboard

certainly a cabinet baseboard styles search gives you this

Thanks Droogs,
It seems baseboard in US speak covers most forms of what we would call skirting or perhaps wainscot going back in time.
I want to add a plinth to a storage chest * coffee table that I have in my head at the moment and thought some sort of cutout would add a bit of interest but as I don't have an artistic fibre in my body from birth, I'm searching for pictures to base a shape on.

I just had a look in that book that was mentioned the other day it it talks about 'serpentine' shaped rails to the plinth.

It's downloadable.
