Knock down work table

Postby Lurker » 01 Apr 2021, 19:00

If I wasn't lazy I could probuably do a search :D

I want to build a work table that I can put up in the middle of my workshop as and when needed.
Someone here (or the other place) built one , it was cut out of a sheet of ply and the parts interlocked.
Basically a posh pair of legs or trestles
Then I want to put on top one of those whatchamacallits......sheet of ply full of cnc holes.

Please Show me yours :o
Or post me a link or three

Maybe not suitable if you are after a full size sheet top but I bought one of these for use on site, couldn't make one for the price. They also do a cheaper Spruce ply version.

I'm now a big fan of the Centipede stands:

Image

They are very light and collapse down into a very small space and can take a heavy load. I have two of the smaller versions; each with their own holy tops. They can be arranged in a multitude of formations including to support a full sheet. Thanks to some plastic pipe clips (and velcro ties to keep them from magically extending themselves when being moved!), the Centipedes attach to their tops for easy storage and portability.

Hi Nelsun, just curious how sturdy they are – does it rock at all? Ian certainly very space-saving.

Looking at the videos, you certainly don't want to put your mug of tea down on the work surface!

Can't see it would be any good for hand planing but then again I never use a hand plane unles desperate

You want a flat surface and not to be thinking about getting your hand planes out. Apart from that, they make a great table. They come with some plastic clampy things that work like a holdfast (in holes going into the legs) to keep your top in place. They work, but you're left with the the holdfast(s) above the table top which can get in the way. I fitted some rubber feet to the underside of the top which drop in to the same holes and that keeps it in place without getting in the way.
