That's an interesting thought Ian. Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

I was thinking just a single, central front leg would make it easier and I’ve seen one before that looked really good.

I think if I were to go down that route I would just give up on the legs altogether and make some sort of fancy bracket instead.

I like the three legs, in certain styles.

I just had another look at mine.

Our skirting is about 25mm thick. I've got the top overhanging the back legs by a little under 25mm and the taper of the leg means I've got around 12mm gap between the leg and the skirting whilst the table top touches the wall. (The wall isn't straight which is why it isn't quite touching in the photo!). So mine could possibly work with a skirting of just under 40mm.

I think what will look right might depend on which angles you commonly see it from.

Would it hurt to have a small gap to the wall (e.g. 5mm?)?

Perhaps moving the two remaining legs slightly further back would do it?

I like the idea of three, or more legs with the top overhanging the back to take up the gap left by any skirting.
The idea of fixing a fine piece of furniture to the wall does not sit well with me at all. One day you may want to move it, then what?
I do not think therefore I do not am.
