GTV drawer slides

Postby 9fingers » 09 Apr 2021, 15:13

Ive been using GTV slides for years on projects but never had any fitting instructions, nor do any appear on the GTV website as far as I can see.

I use the slotted holes to start with and once all titivated, I additionally, use the round holes to fix firmly.

However I cannot work out why/how anyone would use the marked holes which are on a tab and thus inherently weaker. All their drawslides feature these tabs and there are just as many mounting holes through tabs as there are on the rest of the carcase mounting part so they must be there for a reason.
The drawer mounting part has no tabs.

Anyone know please

Different industry (commercial lighting manufacture) but we used to make fixings like that so the case didn't distort when the panel had small stand offs to clear screw heads. That detail was also used to make a hand bend tab you could fold out as a bracket. If any of that is relevant here I have no idea :)

I did wonder about bend out tabs but would have expected a crease line to get them to bend evenly and at 90 degrees.
I’m sort of glad it is not obvious. Makes me feel better

I watched a YouTube video a while back and they advocated attaching using the tabs.

They said that they were there so that the slides can be fractionally eased away from the unit if the build tolerance is off on the draw boxes.

True or not, it makes sense

I suppose it could be plausible but it could still flex in that case. I just had a similar problem  and fitted a 3mm shim behind to fix it keeping it very rigid.
Another curiosity is the the two holes in each tab are of different diameter.

I've just emailed Buller, my usual supplier of GTV to ask them. I'll post back here with what they come up with.

Yes They claimed it was to help fitting to out of square drawers/carcases.
I think if I had a problem job like that, shimming would be the way to go. Having the runner spaced out on flexible tabs must severely affect the load rating of the runner.

Love the product but not the answer from support
