Addendum to Bob's Photobucket guide

PostPosted: 30 Mar 2015, 22:16

I just happened to be in Photobucket today to post the pics of Terry from the weekend and came across Bob's useful sticky on the procedure. I thought it worth mentioning that I suspect PB have slightly changed their functionality because now when you click on the little cog wheel you get this:
Image

So its missing the get links command that Bob referred to in his tutorial. Now you just need to choose the share option and you get this:
Image

Just choose the IMG option as shown above and then you're back on track with Bob's tutorial (ie paste that clipboard text directly into the post and hey presto...your image will display). I hope I've got this right and haven't disappeared down some dark corridor in PB? But it looks to me like they've changed their product since Bob published the sticky. It confused me for a few mins hence I thought this update worth posting.

Rob, Thank you for the addendum.

Yes PB have changed their interface since I wrote the original guide BUT surprisingly I get slightly different views from both the ones you show which is really strange?

Are you on Pc/mac which OS? and Browser

I'm PC, winxp SeaMonkey for comparison

Hi Bob

I'm win 7 (SP1)
IE 11

I must say I hadn't considered they might have environment variables but of course that makes sense. Has your browser still got that get link function then or are there other differences?

I have a slightly different approach to loading pics on PhotoBucket and then linking to them in a thread on the forum..

1. Select the pictures to upload on your PC/Laptop using Windows Explorer (have not hit a limit on this one)

2. Right click “Send to Mail Recipient”

3. Small screen with “Picture Size” – select Smaller 640 x 480 (resizes all large photos to a manageable small size)

4. This then opens an e-mail in Outlook (I am still on MS Outlook 2003 running on W7)

5. The To address is my PB account name XYZ@uploads.photobucket.com

6. Hit the send button and off they go

7. I then wait about 10 minutes and then hit the “Send/Receive” button in Outlook. This then downloads my e-mail from my Gmail account into Outlook.

8. Back comes an e-mail form PB saying

Well done!
Your file has successfully uploaded to your Photobucket account.

And also the link to the uploaded image.

9. The link is Watch it and share the link to the file here::
http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff79/MY ACCOUNT NAME/?action=view&current=LatheStandCompleted1.jpg

10. Clicking on the link takes you to PB to view the uploaded image and the also get the links as posted in Bob’s thread.

11. What I then do is copy this link to my tread on the forum, and then edit it to the following.

12. Where I post a lengthy thread like my Lathe Stand, I will do all the writing in an MS Word document, copying the photo links and modifying them all before posting the thread to the forum. The document is saved and I just keep on adding to it.

Cheers
Phil

Nice one Phil

Definitely out the box on that one. I like the bulk upload tactic using outlook although the resizing isn't required because when you paste a link from PB to here there is an auto resize algorithm happening anyway. But I like the idea you can just fire and forget. Go make a cuppa and then come back when its done.

Agreed, I didn't even realise that functionality was available. Will be having a play with that later! :)

A nice feature that I was not aware off but I cannot see the point as there is a bulk upload available by just dragging from the PC or Mac onto the "Drag Photos Here" box in the PB Library.

Safari 7.1.4 and OS 10.9.5

It's flaky though at times, and you then need to click on individual pictures to get the URL. Having the URL's all listed in the email will make things a lot easier.

A screen shot of a multiple upload through Outlook, which to me is a big advantage as it all happens off line.

I've failed at the first hurdle trying Phils method. Windows explorer does not give me any mail options but then again I don't use IE or outlook.

My plan is to revise my help topic using Photobucket in the the previous way to take account of their changes and to leave this thread to develop as necessary discussing this method. I can see it would have value for lower bandwidth connections.

I've finally got the Upload Via Email facility to work using yahoo mail online.
The problem I had was sending to the wrong address. You need to find your Mobile Upload Address which for me was username.nnnnn@uploads.photobuket.com.
More details here
http://support.photobucket.com/hc/en-us ... t-message-

I sent two 6mb photos on the one email. The confirmation back took just 2mins. It is a shame though that you get one email for each attached photo.

Bob - any chance of a new Photobucket guide ? . I'm trying to post pics for the first time and discovered the differences , and being a techphobe I'm in trouble . i.e. " click on the gearwheel icon and select links "
also is it just me , Photobucket seems to Time Out very quickly .

Well yes maybe when I get some time

To try and solve your immediate problem, when looking at an album of photos, hover but do not click the one you want and top left an icone of three horizontal lines should appear.Click on that and all the links appear, click on the one starting img - I think it is the bottom one and it should say "copied". swap the window for the forum message composition one, place the cursor in your text where you want the picture and paste in the link Ctrl V

Not sure if this helps as different operating systems and browsers might through up different screen views. I use an iMac and Safari or Firefox.

When I log into Photobucket I select "Your Bucket" from the menu on the left. I then drag and drop the images I want to load from my desktop, or photo management tool (iPhoto) or file manager tool (Finder) over to the photobucket page.

To select the code necessary for adding an image to post on the forum I click on the last box under the photo, the one marked IMG, which immediate selects the whole text string in that box so all I need to do is right click to copy it then paste it directly into the post.

Hope that helps

Andy, that just illustrates the inconsistencies of Photobucket. My equivalent PC view does not list the links under each thumbnail. Add to that they keep changing the way it behaves every year or so grrr!

I don't normally use firefox but will try that later and see if the view is what I'm used to or resembles yours.

Odd innit? Have you had a look at your Album settings in Phtobucket.

Andy,

I've looked at photobucket via SeaMonkey, Firefox and Chrome running under Win XP and Win 7 and they all look the same as I'm used to and quite different to the view that you show.

When I get a moment, I'll do a revised PC based tutorial. Would you be willing to do a Mac based one along the same lines?

Cheers

Once I found it (!) it does not seem to affect the appearance.

Granny and eggs moment. Have you cleared cache, cookies, history etc?

Would be great to hear from other photobucket users.

Hi Andy, Having enabled "easy linking mode" and logged out of the site, been elsewhere and looked again, it is now looking like your view.

Hi - sorry for this - I have a load of photos on my pc in a file - is there a straightforward way I can cut paste into posts, without photo bucket, that seems quite complicated?

Thanks in advance..

I'm afraid not Dan. You need to either host them yourself on a server that is powered up 24/7 or use one of the photo hosting services such as photobucket, Flickr etc. Please do NOT use Dropbox as their service brings the forum software to crawling speed for all users.
