Need a Marking Gauge?

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

I see Woodpeckers have been at it again with perhaps the world's expensive marking gauges?

Also described as "onetime" which to me means only for use on a single occasion in the same way as a one time encryption code is used once and discarded??

That is VERY expensive.

They quote ZAR prices when I open that link, and the metric set comes in for a cool ZAR4,039.33 :o

Amazing to think you can make these things for the price of a small masonry nail or old HSS hacksaw blade. Barking...I'll take three  - Rob

I think you might have trouble getting that red finish they use on their one time tools.

Ouch, that does seem a touch on the expensive side.

I think their range of "onetime" offerings means they are made to order and when the orders are complete that's it - no more.

They are not keen on selling the metric ones are they? More expensive but shorter than the imperial equivalent.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

That's because their primary market is the U.S. and they use feet and inches so the bulk of the orders will be for them, the metric ones will be a short run they would rather not bother with.

No, it means they are a single production run so once they're gone, they're gone.

They must be getting desperate as I have had 4 e-mails from different wood work places punting them!
