What should I do with these

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

What should I do with these

Postby Andyp » 01 Jan 2015, 15:35

Any ideas as to what I should do with these

I've checked the square and it seems to be accurate but the pincers and G clamp are solid.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Good candidates for trying an electrolysis bath! Then hammer with WD40 and they'll come up alright I reckon.

You could clean them up using a number of methods, then use them. Or build a display box and hang them on the wall. Or clean first and display second. With that much rust the screw on the clamp may be shot even if you get it apart.

Neat looking as is, though. Did somebody dig them out of the ground?

If they are anything like these ones; eat them before someone else does!

Oops, sorry about that. Want me to edit and go on about pre-soaking your "rusty" tools in hydrochloric acid for a couple of hours before using the wet/dry and honing them on a warped old oil stone (or three) to gleaming perfection? Just say the word and The genie of the internet will huff and puff all that chocolate away...

 ;)

Too late now Peter. :D
When I first opened a scruffy looking box packed with straw I did have to look twice. At first glance they did look like they had just been dug up with the cocoa powder in the box looking for all the world like rust dust.

At least I got Mark and Kirk :D

You did indeed! :obscene-drinkingcheers:

The detail on the screw and the hatching on the bottom part is incredible for chocolate! :D

The thing is, I've seen tools exactly that color that were rusty. I might even have one or two up in the attic. Nice joke.:)

Saw some in our local agriculture trading store but they looked less rusty

Took a bit out of the pincers last night. I was expecting cheap milk, sticks to your teeth, chocolate but actually the cocoa content must be quite high. Not bad.
