Startrite Cyclair 75 d/extractor cutting out

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

Startrite Cyclair 75 d/extractor cutting out

Postby tracerman » 09 Jul 2015, 18:55

Not sure if I need to worry ( yet ) but I noticed last week that the extractor had cut out for no apparent reason . No problem , once I noticed I switched it back on . But it happened several times , and today it switched itself off twice . Also , when I was packing up for the day , when I touched the red button on the wall switch , the switch " chattered " in a " mechanical " way . Bearing in mind that the arrangements are those I have been using for about 15 years , could it be the switch ? . Or the temperature ? .

Suggestions welcome .

We really need a bit more information, but taking a guess, if the switch is NVR, there will be a holding coil that keeps the contacts closed to power the motor. If sawdust has got into the switch box, it could be interfering with the contacts, so with the mains isolated, I would open the box and blow it out with an air line. That might solve the problem.
Of course it may not be a NVR and you might not have an air line.

Davel - just to follow up , I removed the switchbox cover , surprisingly there was not much dust at all , but I gave it blast with the airline and no problems since . Keeping an eye on it .

It does only need very little dust in the wrong place to cause a problem.
