Just a heads up on the Trend bevel box, if you are in the market for an inexpensive bevel box this could be ideal.

I recently managed to destroy my old bevel box so after seeing a review in this months Furniture & Cabinetmaking of the Trend one I walked into my local iron mongers to pick up some blades I’d had sharpened & saw one on the counter.

The review said they were accurate to +/- 0.2 degrees so I checked it out with my Mitutoyo digital protractor it was 0.1 out, which when you consider these are over half the price of other makes & I doubt they would be guaranteed to be much more precise, I think they are a good buy.

I’ve seen them on line for under £18 & when it comes to setting up machinery I find them invaluable.

I've had one of the Gemred ones for a few years now; invaluable bit of kit - Rob

The clever bits all come from the same maker and so go for cheapest supplier.
The case is a simple aluminium extrusion which could well be slightly out of square so try to always work of the same face. It is easy enough to turn your head to read the display and avoid the possible error due to the case. Also use it in relative mode rather than absolute.

That’s the brand I had previously from the days when Gemred boxes were blue :(

Ironically I also had a Wixey box up until recently it came free from Whitehill with one of their spindle blocks but when I got the Mitutoyo I gave a mate the Wixey :eusa-doh:

Would have made a good stocking filler had I seen this a few weeks back. Will have to go on the birthday list now.

That is a good shout, my Gemred has just gone in the bin it didn't enjoy being in storage and I couldn't revive it a second time.
