SIP 14" Bandsaw fence

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

SIP 14" Bandsaw fence

Zyt alors! Quel catastrophe!

I dropped the fence of my SIP bandsaw and it broke the handle in two ( cast alloy!)

And this is the result of my clumsiness!

Those nice people at SIP sent me a short reply to my enquiry saying the part is no longer made.

Do any of you know of any sort of universal fence that could be fitted?

Thanks, Robert, but it's broken lever side of the locking cam. I think the leverage would overcome the glue.

I think Roger's probably right.

Thanks, Roger, you're probably right. I'll have to try and find a day or two's consultancy somewhere to save up for it :)

Nothing to lose by trying.

Araldite can be amazingly strong and nice clean break surfaces should glue well.

I've a basic Axminster one on my big startrite and it has been fine. Not sure of the model but it was not expensive. I'll see it it has a model number on it when I'm in the workshop later today
Bob

Edit: it is this one. Now cost 100quid though

Thanks, Gents.

Ordered the Kreg from FFX, nearly the same as the Ax.

Kreg arrived. Their website says it will fit a SIP 14".

Guess what, no holes on the front of the SIP table to take the Kreg bolts.

Out comes a cheap tap set I bought a while ago to make threads in wood. Boned up (interweb) on drilling holes in cast iron. Got the old B&D drill out with variable speed and the tin of 3-in-1.

Marked the holes out on masking tape, punched the holes, drilled the holes slowly, tapped the holes, cleaned the holes, tried bolts in the holes and it worked!

Never done any engineering like that before with metal.

Kreg fence fits a treat!

Feeling chuffed.

Malc,

Does the design of your saw mean the fence mounts have to be removed to change blades?

Yes, but so did the fence that SIP supplied with the machine.

Ok but isn't that a real pain with the SIP saw design?

On my Startrite the front half of the table lifts off, fence rail and all and I'd presumed all bandsaws worked that way. I'll pay more attention looking at others now.

All the bandsaws I've ever had have been the same way as Malc's.

Glad the Kreg has worked out for you, Malc

Interesting, I just have to be glad that mine does not work that way then. Blade change takes a minute or so.

There is a strap across the gap on my bandsaw (Record Power) table but you only need to undo one bolt to swivel it out of the way for blade changing. Record obviously thought about this as one end of the strap has a hole and the other a slot. ;)

I need only undo one bolt and loosen the other to swing the fence rail down.

But I will need t o make a spacer so that it returns parallel to the table because the Kreg holes are long to suit different tables.
