Makita 3620 how?

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

Makita 3620 how?

Postby Phil » 10 May 2020, 16:09

This an old Makita 3620 router which lives in my router table.

However, the bushes/bearings have seized (?)
I want to open it up to see what the issue is and can it be repaired.

BUT, how the h-l do I split it open?

As can be seen I have attacked it with screwdrivers, no way it wants to open up.

What am I missing?

I have removed all visible screws, bolts.

Thanks very much Malc & Bob

Apart from using a 4lb hammer, I have had every flat screwdriver wedged in.
The next step will be the hammer

Maybe I will have better insight and patience this afternoon.

One thought Phil. If your bearings have failed then they would have got hot and might have melted/welded the two halves.
Bigger and bigger hammers will just do damage. Open up a crack and gradually make it longer being mindful of not probing deeply and risking damage to the works.
Good luck

Thanks Bob, that is probably what happened.
The router was permanently in the table and I suspect that an overload of dust over the years is the issue despite the table having very good dust extraction.

I will try again this afternoon.

Lost my patience yesterday as I hit a big stuff-up on the painting of the bookends. Will still do a thread on that one.

The fan destoyed.
Bearing stuf-f-f-fed
And the armature (?) was damaged in the process.

So, it ended up in the bin.

I have had it for nearly 20 years and it was second/third hand.

Will look around for a replacement as it was a nice small light router compared to the Ryobi.
