Domino DF500

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

Domino DF500

I've long held the principle that however good the blue and lime green machines are I just cannot justify that level of spending on myself/my hobby.

However I do have a couple of projects coming up that seem idealy suited to the smaller Domino machine.

Has anyone had experience of buying used ones? What are the chances of getting a pup or are they so well made that even used ones are good maybe.

Maybe someone here as one that is not getting used and willing to trade? I've looked on the 'bay but they seem to make nearly new money.

Perhaps I should buy new and sell after the projects are done and consider the price difference as a "hire cost"

I note that on Facebook Marketplace, there seems to be 110v models of that brand. That might be a place to look, and buy a yellow box to go with it.

I bought a 'nearly new' Mk1 machine some years ago and the reason they hold their price so well is because a) they are superbly made and b) they are THE most useful power tool in the 'shop.

How you've managed for so long without one Bob is truly one of the mysteries of WH2  - Rob (who's Domino would have to be prized out of his cold, dead and decaying fingers  )

Thanks for the steer.
No problem with 110v as I have transformers. currently the nearest one on FBMP seems to be in Rugby and wrong side of £500 to boot
Best new price seems to be a shade under £600 that I've found.

I bought mine secondhand complete with systainer of domino's. Perfectly OK. But my motto has always been, buy new if no decent secondhand one available, use then resell. How long would you want it for? I'm sitting here thinking whether or not I could lend you mine for a while as I have the bigger brother although he is a bit of a thug !

That is a very kind thought Roger but I'm a while away from starting and there are two projects that I'd use it for and it would be unreasonable to leave you without for any length of time and to be honest I would feel under pressure to rush through the jobs to get it back to you.
It's just possible I might be able to borrow locally or more likely buy used and resell once I'm done.
Much appreciated

I bought mine new with a box of dominos about 10 or so years ago. It's 110v as are all my tools. It has been back to festool once to be repaired. If I remember right the underside alignment marks were wrong so the dominos were coming out slightly out of line. The only other thing that broke was the switch.
Could I live without it - yes. Does it make things easier - sometimes, but it can make you do things in a dumb way so you can joint it with a domino. Would I sell it - no, would I buy one again - hummm, would I buy the big one - no. It is like all festool gear annoyingly useful and slightly floored.
I run up lengths of domino on the spindle moulder, there is a euro cutter that has a couple of radius profiles that are the same. I cant remember which one it is I can have a look later on.
I also tend to run up wider dominos, there is a chart somewhere which says the maximum width you can cut on whatever setting. I tended to use that a lot for making kitchen doors.
The bits are pricey and hurts when you need to replace a lot at once.

Well spotted guys!

Its not often FFX prices can be beaten when I've looked at other tool prices.

I bought one 9 years ago for my kitchen build, and it is one of the best buys I've ever made. Second hand value is now way more than I paid, so could argue that in addition to the use I've had out of it I've been paid for having it. If I was forced to get rid of tools, it would be one of the last things to go. Do make sure you have good extraction though - preferably with auto switching.

I bought mine new last year, it was a couple of specific big house projects which I haven’t started but used it on other things already. I got it when they had a £100 cash back offer on meaning that I paid less than the going rate second hand for it. Bought it with the plan I could sell on once projects completed if I felt I wouldn’t use it again.... don’t think that will be happening!

I was recommended by a pal to look at this place for Festool kit; not sure if the Domino package(s) are any cheaper than elsewhere though - Rob

Ive used nuts and bolts/powertoolsupplies quite a bit in the past. They used to be as competitively prices as ffx but I’ve not found that to be the case more recently. A good company to deal with in my experience though

I had an unsolicited offer of a DF500 from another forum (despite only posting here?) and I collected it today.

All looks good but the cutter is shagged obviously having hit some metal.

Is there a goto vendor of replacement cutters at best prices?
I also notice that Trend do some third party solid carbide ones cheaper than OEM - I presume fessy ones are HSS?

Any recommendations for sources please. I only want one size possibly a 5mm or 6mm for my forthcoming projects

TIA

That is a very kind offer Craig but surely you need it to go with your Dom?
I'm quite happy to buy one just wanted to get a good deal and also to seek opinion on the Trend ones.
