rust removal by electrolysis

Here's the place to talk about all your table saws, bandsaws, routers and dust extractors. In fact anything that makes noise and uses electrickery.

rust removal by electrolysis

Postby tracerman » 28 Oct 2014, 11:49

Just before we lost the Woodhaven One , there was a thread about rust removal by electrolysis and other ideas . Would it be possible to repeat those threads ? . I got the jist , but I think it would be a very useful to have a re-cap together with other ideas . ( i.e. if vinegar works etc ...) .
I am ashamed to admit that my lovely old Myford ML8 has been stood on its end for " a long while " whilst awaiting restoration . The four-jaw chuck was left on it and has a film of rust . So I am wondering whether to use electrolysis on the whole thing , ( the chuck I mean ) or whether to dismantle it during the process .

Ashamed of Southampton .

Cannot help with the electrolysis but if the chuck has only surface rust much simpler to clean it off with one of the Shield Technology products, Jenolite (phosphoric acid) , citric acid etc etc
