This is bonded in with a semi flexible acrylic sealer Andy, I've tried all sorts of bonding over the years but wood movement is a problem over time, anything too rigid such as 'Hot Melt' can result in just coming loose or worst case cracked marble.

A loose Marble is risky as it's almost inevitable someone will drop it, not realising it's not fixed.

Aren’t all acrylic sealants flexible? Or should I be looking for a particular type?

I’ll be fixing some cut ceramic tiles into wood bases soon to be used as coasters.

I would not know Andy. I just make sure to highlight that it's desirable to have flexible interface between wood and stone/ceramic substrates because of the inevitable wood movement.

Some folks don't bond the tiles but I think the odds on dropping the tile during handling in use are too high.
