At The Going Down of The Sun

Postby Dalboy » 31 Oct 2018, 17:28

This is my tribute to all those that gave so much from all around the world.
I named it "At The Going Down of The Sun" because of the lines of the verse as well as the soldier silhouetted against the setting sun I then added some poppies for that little extra way of remembering the fallen.

Made from Field maple and then sprayed using an airbrush and finished with an acrylic gloss varnish. It stands 8 3/4" and is 3 1/4" at the widest point

C and C welcome

Wow Derek,
Without doubt the best piece of painted turning that you have shown here.

Love it.

On a technical note did you use a stencil for the soldier?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Thank you both.

I have been working on this for nearly a week as the decoration was originally going to be flames but two days ago I decided to rub it back and go with this design.
The inside and bottom I have left natural wood so people can see the material that this piece is made from

I made a cut out of the soldier and held it in place with spray on photo adhesive which I then removed after the sun was complete. I also made a two part stencil for all the three sizes of poppies

Not usually a fan of painted turnings but that is fantastic. Well done.

Thank you guys.

Just to let you know what will happen to this piece after my club meeting Saturday I will be taking it to my local Royal British Legion branch and giving it to them as a donation so they can help servicemen and women both serving and retired

If they put it online to auction then please let me know where Derek. I will happily place a bid or two to push the price up, and would be delighted to win it.
Cheers

When I find out what they will do with it I will let you know.

I could have sold at least 20+ of these I have had so many asking one person started by offering me £100
