Well I got around to the mahogany pen. The photo's do not show it to the fullest but should give you an idea how it does look.

I cleaned all the wood pieces you sent and sanded them gave them a wipe over with a damp cloth and this one showed the most promise.

Sorry that the bits I sent you guys weren't very flamed. Hard to tell until you start getting inside the wood.

I also now realise that the small size of pens doesn't really lend itself perhaps as has been suggested.

That piece is fantastic definitely needs that larger field to show it off to it's best which is exactly what you have done. I certainly look forward to seeing the rest of the project this is from.

Yes, I used a mix of walnut, red and yellow as suggested by Sghian Dubh.
