Ash Bowl

Postby Dalboy » 05 Feb 2016, 17:29

I picked up some Ash at a steam rally from a man who was demonstrating a engine driven saw, see very short video of it being cut

https://youtu.be/hk_DJg1o-hY

I cut it into blanks and stored it. I did take a couple of pieces out after 6 months and hid it in the top of the airing cupboard for 6 weeks(don't tell the wife)

This bowl is one of the bits I was pleased at the grain I found inside as it did not show anything promising before turning.

Measures 8 3/4" X 1 3/4"

C & C Welcome

Beautiful - the grain is fantastic and figuring in just the right place.

When my shed is built - im tempted with a lathe as my first real purchase!

PS- Grain like this always reminds me of the 'Grain' in large hunks of fresh Tuna that you sometimes see in markets abroad, I wonder if it would be possible to make a half reasonable wooden copy using the grain?

Keep up the good work - we learn from each one posted!

Is the inside turned off centre or a camera angle. Great bowl either way.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Thank you both.

The camera angle Andy. I finished this with the buffing system and unfortunately did not show in the picture must practice with the camera as well as experiment with my set up, I think I need some lights

Just taken some more which show the finish

Very nice piece of ash, the ripple is shown off to full effect. Good bowl.
