Not sure about the dark wood but I think it's Bubinga.

I do have some thick pieces of walnut so I may well do something like that.

I think I'm going to copy your idea Andy and try some thin inserts when the weather gets a bit warmer.

I used Titebond 3 by the way which worked out fine but I may try some Cascamite next as I have a small tub of it tucked away somewhere.

You did a better job then me of getting your intersection at right angles.

As you might be aware Titebond 3 can leave a dark glue line. Not a problem in this application but it might show if laminating two light coloured woods.

Looks great with the broad "stripes"
(we used to drive cars with stripes like that 8-) about 50 years ago.)
