Anatomy of a walnut bowl

Postby selectortone » 28 Apr 2017, 16:30

A friend asked me to make a fruit bowl as a surprise prezzie for his wife for her birthday. I took some "in progress" shots for her and I thought you guys might like to see them. It's from a slab of walnut that came from a tree from the New Forest. The bowl finished at 14" diameter. It's finished with food-safe oil. They came over and picked it up this afternoon and she was really pleased with it so my mate is in her good books...

Thanks for sharing Terry. A great looking bowl. I real like those progress shots from cut log to finished bowl.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Thanks Rod - yes, quite pale when freshly turned a few weeks ago. It has darkened a little, and will continue to judging by other pieces I've turned from the same tree.

Nice bowl, but looks like it could have a fair amount of sap in it. Good to see someone else using the same lathe as me :D - Rob
