Laurel - any good for turning?

Postby selectortone » 29 Apr 2017, 19:04

A neighbour is having some laurel taken out from his boundary. The plants (don't know if you'd call them shrubs or trees) are mature and stand about as high as my house and the main trunks are six or eight inches in diameter. I can have as much of it as I want, but is this wood any good for turning?

Laurel is fantastic on a lathe, bandsaw box's, it even resaws well, take the normal precautions like getting rid of the heart in use for bowls. The only downfall is you will run out of ideas what to make and who to give it to.
If you can get hold of the root ball they make super garden ornaments after a pressure wash trim it then paint with decking clear protector.
Have a ball
