I got this lump down and stuck it on the lathe. It was cut in Feb of this year. Not much room above the bed.

I didn't half make my table wobble but after about 3 hours and this pile of shavings later

I ended up with this

I slopped some more sealer on the outside and will leave for a further 6 - 8 months

Fingers crossed a couple of splits on the top edge will not get too much worse or I will end up with a plate rather than a bowl. I tried to get some superglue in them, will have to wait and see.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

I don't do turning .. but wonder if you can fill any splits with coloured epoxy , and carry on turning ?

Epoxy is always an option but that lump was over 4" thick so cannot possibly be dry enough for finish turning yet. When it has sat for a few more months I will take a little more off and see what it is like.

Just looking at how you have rough turned that Andy. The bottom looks thicker than the sides. When rough turning try to get the same thickness through out this not only lets the whole thing dry properly but also allows for the whole thing to warp in one go as the thicker part may move on the second turning.
When I rough turn that is how I do it which means that when dry I can then turn to completion on the second turn.
I hope that all makes sense
