Wenge screwdriver

Postby Doug » 20 Feb 2018, 20:19

My mate likes Wenge so for his last few birthdays I’ve turned him a hand tool from segmented Wenge & Maple, this year I opted for a screwdriver, here is the beautiful grain in the handle taking shape on the lathe

I decided to use the bit holder from a Bosch set in the handle, I have this same set in the van & it covers most eventualities so figured it would be good to accompany the screwdriver

Doug,

That is a beautiful present, I’m sure he will be very pleased.

I’m pretty sure you would have no problem selling those.

I can see sawdust, Doug. Sort yourself out, will you......

That's a beautiful tool. What it will look like after 10 years of use in a sweaty palm is another thing, but for now.....looks great.

I agree, it does look nice. Sadly the only problem with Wenge is its rare to see the open grain filled properly on items made from it.

Thanks for the comments, I met up with Jon my mate at the FFX tool show on Friday, he really liked the screwdriver, so bonus there. Had a great weekend looking at tools, eating curry & generally making merry.

Just caught this thread. Oh yes, very nice Doug! Beautiful my dear, beautiful. (A bit of Fagin there!) 8-)

I do like a bit of African wenge. I have a piece in my sample case and I often try and promote it to clients when on a lead.
In my previous life, I was a tree.
