Offcut Offerings

Postby Woodbloke » 04 Mar 2018, 16:34

So I had a 'request' from SWIMBO..could I do some turnings for her work colleagues? As always, I always seem to accumulate a pile of offcuts of one sort or another and turning them into a selection of bowls and platters seemed a good way to dispose of them. Herewith then a selection of nine little bowl and platters together with a small goblet. Timbers used were burr elm, elm, mahogany, pine, walnut, oak and brown oak:

The small goblet in English Walnut was particularly irksome to turn and started off thus:

...as it had a huge crack down the middle, but it seemed to turn out quite well:

All pieces were signed and dated:

...using a pyrography tool. If you work for Sainsbury's in Salisbury and can be there at 4am on Wednesday morning, you can claim on of these little offerings free and gratis.
One way to increase the brownie points :D - Rob

Very nice indeed Rob!

I like the fact you've labelled, signed & dated them - nice touch. 8-)

signing is always something I remember to do after I have finished something.

Can you share which pyrography tool you have used? I have previously looked but always baulked at the price.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Andy, it's this one from the old firm. I've got a much cheaper version which you can have for a nominal sum, but I changed it for the pyrography station 'cos it never got hot enough, although it does make some sort of burnt offering :D on the wood - Rob

They are very nice. I have a branding iron I use to mark flat stuff, I also have a Peter Child pyrography set but need to practice, you have mastered your kit, the marking is excellent.
Regards,
Dave
My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

Thanks Rob, if you could not get it hot enough than I expect I would have the same problem. I wioll continue with a pencil, when I remember to.

Like you I always remember after I have finished the piece. When I do remember I use the Peter Child one as I use it for other things
