Little bird houses made yesterday Made with various woods of little offcuts I throw in a bin for projects like this. i am sure we all end up with bits not knowing what to do with them. There is Chestnut, London Plane, Yew, Spalted beech, Oak and Maple. The roofs are Laburnum, Oak and the coloured ones are tulip Wood. The perches are cocktail sticks.
Paints used on the roofs are 1 and 10 plain wood, 2 Golden interference paint, 3 and 6 Chestnut iridescent paint,4, 5, 7 and 9 Jo Sonja Iridescent paints, 8 Golden Iridescent paint.
So a good mix of manufacturers paints.

Very nice Derek. I always make a few of those at Christmas time for friends and relatives to put on their Christmas trees. They are always popular.

It is always the colour roof ones that go the fastest

I should have ago at those this year and get the kids to paint them. Are they all turned as one or are the rooves glued on?

Made in two parts I tend to use a decorative wood where it shows and a plain wood for the roofs where they are painted. I drill a 12 hole with a forstner bit just deep enough to go below the little hole in the side then turn and shape the bottom. The roof I drill a very small hole on a piece of wood which will become the top. Shape the roof and cut in and make a 1" tenon before parting off.
So as you can see simple to do
