Spalted Beech Vases

For my sister's birthday. Turned from the same piece of spalted beech. The larger one is about 8" tall:

two very nice pieces and just the right amount of spalting. I really like the taller vase

Yes, getting a smooth finish on spalted wood is a bit of a challenge - the spalted parts are very dry and it's easy to get tear-out. Liberal treatments of unthinned cellulose sanding sealer and sharp tools help, as does taking light cuts and paying attention to rubbing the bevel.

They are finished with diamond white and then carnauba and beeswax applied by buffing wheels.
