Celtic knot pen, yew and walnut

The place to find and post anything related to the world of spinning wood at ridiculously high speeds!

Aluminium is widely available in many different thicknesses and can easily be cut by carbon steel tools let alone HSS which I think most wood turning tools are made from.
The same applies to brass copper and even mild steel.

That is very nice Andy, thoughtful and useful gift.

The gluing up, if I understand the process:-
Cut one face at an angle, glue in veneer strip
Flip over and same process as opposite face
Then flip onto side, and repeat
Flip over and repeat

Like the jig 8-)

That’s it Phil. Dont forget the veneer thickness must match the saw kerf.

Ok, stupid question ................

3mm saw kerf
0.71mm veneer
= 4.22 strips of veneer.

Or am I missing something?

Yes Phil, go back to this post. Brain fade on my part. Saw kerf nowhere near 3mm. Can you imagine pushing a 3mm wide hand saw? The mitre saw i use matches perfectly the .71mm of the veneers plus a bit for the glue ;)

Andyp wrote:Bob, sometimes my own ignorance and memory lapse amazes me. 3mm saw kerf on a champion mitre saw  what was I thinking.

I am surprised Rob did not spot my error.

Here is Rob’s image of the veneers after he thicknessed them.

Sorry about that.
