Yin Yang bowl

Despite the "it would have been easier my way" comments from the last time I posted one of these I continued with the templates and this time using cherry and sycamore, bought especially for the project, I ended up with what is actually an overdue wedding present (15 months ovrerdue  ).

There appears to be one or two sanding marks that I swear were not there when I took it off the lathe on Sunday. I might have to refinish it.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Fifteen months late! Fifteen!!!!!! How did you get away with that?

I really like the bowl, Andy. That's a nice gentle contrast.

These days on light coloured woods particularly I’ve taken to having a magnifying glass by the lathe to give the piece a once over prior to finishing, a wipe of sanding sealer helps as well, my eyesight sadly isn’t what it used to be.
I’m sure the recipients will be happy with it just tell them good things come to those who wait & it does look good :eusa-clap:

Thanks all.
In my defence I missed the actual wedding due to a family illness and the bowl at that time was not quite finished anyway. It was also not the only wedding present. What was then a partially finished bowl remained in the house for about 6 months before the round-to-it arrived and I am glad I left it so long as the different woods, although already very well seasoned, dried still more and left a couple of unsightly ridges.
So by that time we decided it would make a good 1st anniversary present.
Other issues got in the way this summer but it will be wrapped and sent for Christmas.

I have other projects that have been ongoing for longer.

Doug I have resolved to sorting out a dedicated light for the lathe which I think would help.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Missed this yesterday nice bowl Andy. Well done on the nice tight joint. I know the feeling that you sand check and double-check and then when off the lathe you find something not right normally when taking a photo of the piece

Very nice Andy and good job on the foot. ;) I feel your pain about the sanding, it’s happened to me quite a few times. I’ve now come to the conclusion that it’s often better to actually finish sanding with it off the lathe in the direction of the grain.

Just out of interest what Adhesive did you use?

Thanks Derek.
Missus reckons it not worth redoing so it is what it is.

I glued it along time ago so can’t be certain but I think green bottle Evostik resin W PVA. It’s what I use for most stuff.
