Made from oak from the log pile finished with sealer and wax. Will contain a little surprise for the wife's birthday tomorrow.

A nice little box. Sometimes simple is better.

Now it may be a simple box but its a very nice box, I love oak with those rays. Your wife should be well pleased with that.

Thanks Dave,

She was probably more pleased with what was inside, a folded up piece of paper confirming we had secured our order two of the Tower of London poppies.

I was not aware of being on a different planet but neither SWMBO or I heard anything about this until the display was being built and it appeared on the news and by then all the poppies had been sold.

I'm still not sure how the sale was announced and how we managed to miss it.

Can't remember how I found out, on the news I think but I do remember that they had sold out a week after I placed the order on the 18th October. We would have liked to have visited the installation in situ.

Have you received yours Mark?
I do hope the packaging is good enough to get them here in one piece.

We didn't buy ours until after the display had been there for a long time. We bought ours on October 16th and by that time they had been on display at the ToL since July 5th (or that's when it started I think) and the sale started on August 5th. I know people who were still buying them online later in October, when did you try and buy Bob?

Mark

EDIT : Andy, nope ours hasn't arrived yet.

First I heard of them was just before Armistice Day when they were on the TV news and by then they were all sold.

We were out of the country for about a month in September so there could have been some exposure then that we missed.

My sister in law had hers as a gift from her daughter in time for Christmas so there are certainly some being delivered.

Ah that makes sense then, yes they started to pull them up on Armistice day. There was definitely a lot of media about the sale so yes, I guess you missed it, shame.

I know my Mrs bought 2, one for her mum, but her mum already bought one, so we may would need to check with LOML have a spare...

Same here. We saw the poppies at the Tower, but didn't see details about the sale - Rob

Yep, got ours about 3 weeks or so ago. Very good. They come in a long box, poppy bubble wrapped with the rusted metal spike they were planted with. :)

Theres a couple of info leaflets and instructions on how to put it together (bunch of thick black rubber washers front and back to hold it and look like the black centre).

Suggests putting it in the garden but I think I'm going to build a display case for ours so it can go on the wall.

That sounds like a good idea - things like that only get covered in bird crap outside and these are quite special.

Not received yet. Deliver date still January/February.

If you do put them outside I doubt that they will be frost hardy.

Just received our poppies.

I do like the idea of a display cabinet to show them off with perhaps the image of my great uncles gravestone in the CWG in Salonika, and an aerial photo of the display at the Tower.
Will have to give this some thought and run it past the chief design consultant.
