Looks like a candidate for turning a bung in contrasting wood. Shame about the hole all the same as yew makes a nice bowl

A 2 Euro coin to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo would fill that gap nicely - the Belgian mint have several thousand spare now the French have objected to it - know any friendly Belgians :D

Seriously, could you plug the gap with something as a contrast?

Bit of a bummer, nice fire wood!
I did the same with a potpourri, saved the day, it turned into a bangle

I feel your pain Rob, such a lovely piece of wood too!

With my limited experience I have come to te conclusion that a spigot on the base of the bowl for holding in the chuck, then reverse chucked (button jaws are on their way) so the spigot can be removed leaving an ever so slightly concave base is the way to go.

If the UK ever joined the euro can you imagine the designs they could use to p*ss off the French?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Here's the replacement for the one that went 'fubar' :D and an additional one, plus a little'n I did last year:

Image

The one in yew is quite shallow and the brown rosewoody sort of thing is in Ovangkol...horrible, nasty stuff   and not recommended for the spiny side. The small light coloured one is in holm oak, obtained as a log from Stourhead last year. If you ever get hold of some, it's great :eusa-dance: to turn. - Rob
