Doorstop – first off Hegner

Ok, so now that the Hegner is up and running (at long last!), I decided that something small and simple would be a good exercise.

Years ago I did a lot of doorstops. Here is a snail in Mahogany which I then copied onto a piece of scrap pine.

Fired up the Hegner (so smooth running) and cut it out.

My going around corners could certainly do with a bit of practice, but the end result only required some sanding on the back edges – a bit fluffy.

Cool. Bit of carving to define the shell and that would look great... ;)

Thanks. I did snails, rabbits, tortoise and squirrels.
All given away or sold at the church fete for their funds.

They were in Oak, Mahogany, White Stink wood and African Rose wood.

Dave,
With the greatest of pleasure.

It is certainly not my idea (I am not creative at all, totally left brain  ) I saw it on a woodwork forum, and will give acknowledgement when I can remember from where.

Assuming the wedge part is typically twice the thickness of a door, doesn't the rest present an extreme trip hazard?

Sorry to be a wet blanket.....

We normally push the wedge in from the edge of the door so not much of try hazard, suppose I could cut one with an elf on it.

The only time I've used a door wedge was on business trips abroad to more intimidating countries.
We had to watch a safety DVD every year which included a long list of advice when staying in hotels etc.
One was to secure your door with a wedge, not to have a room on the ground floor or facing the car park or roadways ( car bombs).
Carry a fake wallet etc etc.

Made you really scared to go!!

Love the wedge now all you need is one for every door in the house and all different creatures

Bob, we used them edge on, so no tripping.

Certainly if you went side on, it would be a problem.

Main bedroom has a squirrel
Study has a cat
Bedroom 2 has the snail.

Cool doorstop with nicely cut curves :) .

I made one a few years ago out of a maple off-cut in the shape of an Alsation. It's never been used, of course. I'll see if I can find a photo...
