Blade, speed, smoke …… Beech Reindeer

Postby Phil » 24 Dec 2019, 19:31

Ok, even the Guinea fowl are avoiding passing the garage on their way to the bush, can’t handle the blue air.

I decided to go back to basics and first recheck all the settings.
Check the oil in the top and bottom arms.
The top arm is a screw and washer. Hegner UK could only supply a grease nipple, so I improvised.

The bottom arm has the spring-loaded cap.

My oiling kit - special “wey ?” oil and a syringe.

The bottom blade holder was loose and the screw ‘thing’ too short. So needed to improvise and came up with a small bolt, wing nut, nuts and spring washers.

Then came the fitting and alignment.
Sawing the second half of the pattern went a lot better.

No broken blade but this one looks like it has had it!

Necessity is the mother of invention! :eusa-dance:

I like your hi-tech maintenance system.

Strangely enough, my saws both have loose-fitting lower blade holders. They're supposed to be loose in order to avoid stressing the quasi-pendulum motion of the blade as it cuts. Or have I misunderstood you?

Gill, that was on my question list - how tight/close should those screws be?
Both just touch the little hole on top of the blade holder.

I will take the covers off the small Hegner tomorrow and see what that looks like.

Gill, the small machine bottom bracket is just a loose holder.

The Polycut blade holders are the same top & bottom - a screw fitting to hold it in place.

This is the last cut on the Beech Reindeer.

I wrapped it in clear packaging tape which worked a lot better than the brown stuff.

These are the 3 offcuts which have been sanded. They will get a small eyelet for hanging, painted and a ribbon. Can be hung on a Christmas tree.
