Martin Guitar Kit (Ready for Lacquering)

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Very nice mate. I don’t have a lot to offer by way of comments but I’m very much enjoying watching this thread unfold.
Cheers

Thanks, Mark.

It's nice to know people are following, especially when I go through challenging times in this build, which is most of the time! :D If you remember, I was trained on straight lines and square corners!

Thank you, Andy. Wow!

The No 2 guitar, the six string, when I glued the neck to the body 20 years ago, I made a right hash up of it and left two big gaps either side of the heel.

I'd been wondering for ages what to fill the gaps with. Yesterday, I had the mad idea of mixing the mahogany coloured water based grain filler with Titebond Original.

So last night I made up a mix and looked at this morning. It's set hard and mahogany coloured.

So, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I know it's a bit wet still, but I reckon when dry and with some delicate sanding, that'll look a darn site better that those gaps. :)

The weather calmed down this evening, so I was able to hang both guitars, No 2 whole, and No 3 body and neck, under the verandah roof and sprayed them with sanding sealer.

Now for a day or two of sanding with 400 grit before grainfilling both.

Good man! Stand by your bed!

Not a lot to show, just grain filling and rubbing down of both guitars.

More sanding sealer later in the week, followed by lacquering.

Grain filled (not very well) and 2 x washcoat sprayed (not very well), but I'm good at rubbing back with 400grit! :D
