This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

On the GD programme they had to comply with very strict water usage - so many litres of water/person/day.
Can you get around this to some extent using grey water for toilet flushing etc?

Yes, Rod, we'll be doing exactly that. There is also a well on site, and we are investigating whether it is viable for the potable water supply.

It has just occurred to me Mike. When you have a well for potable water, are there restrictions on the proximity of soakaways and septic tank outflows?
Or is it deemed that the path through soil, rock etc is deemed to give enough isolation?

I don't know yet, Bob. This is stuff I'll have to be investigating. The outlet from the sewerage treatment plant would necessarily be a long way from the well (probably 40 metres, and down-hill), so it won't be a problem, but i will have to find out the whole story later in the design process.

It's not only soakaways etc that Mike will need to consider but also proximity of farm animals grazing and whether slurry is spread on any fields near or upstream of the well.
If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

That's a fantastic design for a house. An ideal project for the Grand Design TV program and would love to see it actually built.

The consolidation by designers of all the attendant issues in a project like this is breathtaking to those of us who haven't ever stepped foot in the process. I would get halfway through and have forgotten something critical! Excellent work and will be great to see any updates as the work evolves.

I made a 3D model in Autocad, which I've sent to a CGI man (computer generated image). You be amazed at what he does with this (screenshot):
I'll post his finished, photo-real image in a week or so. Then we'll get down to doing some design work on it

When working in a 3D model, you want as much contrast between different layers as you can get, because it is very easy to get confused as to what is what.

agreed.
I had my autocad templates set up with layers that had colours as the layer names and linestyle with colours to match. made life a lot easier. The print layout was set to print all as black so they are only screen colours.
Must be 10 years since I've used autocad now - I wonder if I'd still know how

Very Smart! A veritable feast for the eyes.
Was tempted to rib about proximity to boundary but I will resist....

I was a bit concerned with the "porthole dormers" on your previous version - this one I really like.
Looks fantastic!

Oh YES. Really like the new butterfly roof on the top bit. Is this the final design? When does the build start?

Almost certainly not. The clients haven't seen it yet, and they will surely have comments.

Are all those glazed panels flat or are there some compound curves needed?

Didn't like to say, but really didn't like those portholes, this is much nicer IMHO.
