Drawer fronts and CofL bottoms have all been fitted now and I'm onto the handles.

This is the jig for laminating the fronts

Here's an 80mm prototype in Indian ebony taped onto onto one of the fronts

Coming along nicely.

This is not a criticism Rob as I can understand why but I have just noticed how long you have been at it with this one. Are you 100% back to normal duties now?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

That looks amazing, you must be very pleased. Will you be posting more detail pictures with the drawers open etc.? I would be very interested to see them if you do.

Spot on!

Well done, looks a work of art and will have the kids arm wrestling for it when you pop your clogs.

Great craftmanship there Rob as always!
Really struggling to think of an application for swmbo to use those small drawers?
Then it dawned on me. Seven drawers seven days of the week so it must be underwear and socks organised by day!

Gorgeous Rob,
I bet those drawers are so well fitted that when one is closed the air pressure opens another.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Thanks Bob. The capacity of this thing is vast; the smallest drawer top rhs measures 470 x 185 x 105mm so she could cause mayhem in M&S with her CC and still not fill it!

Never going to happen Andy; it's a skeletal framework :D The walnut you see on the side are the drawer sides - Rob

Very nice Rob. Is the style (skeletal, open sided) something you've seen/borrowed or all your own grey matter?

Possibly. cf Makepeace and "Makebloke"

I need to go back a re-read the thread to see how the design stops the exposed sides getting scuffed in use.

Rob, thank you for taking the time to do a wip.

It really is a thing of beauty and the walnut with the ebony handles work well together.

Bob, Trim can be a bit slow on the uptake sometimes

This is the chest of drawers in it's final location, having moved upstairs this morning with the help of my next door neighbour...

Image

SWIMBO has managed to fill it  apart from the very top large drawer.

To answer your question Bob, the fronts and sides are separate. There's a drawer box with ample clearance down the sides, so the finish won't get damaged when it's pulled out. The front is screwed in place and is a much snugger fit into the frame, with a clearance all round of about 0.2mm whereas the sides clear by considerably more. As each drawer runs on a central runner, there's no 'waggle' from side to side as it's pulled out.

Image

If you can bear to scroll down on my FB page, there's a video of the drawers opening and closing - Rob
